When the Garcia family brought home a puppy named Biscuit, everyone was excited. But on the first night, Biscuit whined in his crate and would not settle down. Sofia had an idea. She put her old soft blanket in the crate and set a ticking clock nearby. "The ticking sounds a little like a heartbeat," she explained. Biscuit sniffed the blanket, curled up, and fell asleep. In the morning, Sofia took him outside, and he chased a leaf across the yard.

Owen and his dad wanted to build a treehouse in the old oak tree. First, they drew a plan on paper. Next, they bought wood, nails, and a strong rope. Dad cut the boards, and Owen held them steady. It took three weekends to finish the floor and walls. On the last day, they hung a rope ladder from the door. Owen climbed up, sat by the window, and read his favorite comic book. "This is the best spot in the whole yard," he said.

Florida is famous for its oranges. Orange trees grow best where winters are mild and there is plenty of sunshine. In spring, the trees are covered with small white flowers called orange blossoms. They smell sweet, and bees visit them. After the flowers fade, tiny green fruits begin to grow. The fruits take many months to ripen and turn orange. Workers pick the oranges by hand, and many of them are squeezed into juice.
